Picture Perfect
Self Essentials is passionate and serious about helping people overcome body image difficulties. We are committed to raising awareness of this issue on a personal level, in the community, schools and with health professionals.
Currently we are proud to support an exciting and powerful new dance production by award winning NSW choreographer Fiona Malone. Picture Perfect tells the story of a woman's unhealthy obsession with body image and her quest for 'her ideal physical perfection which leads to an addiction to cosmetic surgery'.
The work addresses a topical and controversial issue within our contemporary society and will raise awareness of issues surrounding body image. Picture Perfect is accessible to a broad audience demographic (ages 16-55) with its non-language based storytelling, captivating dance and use of contemporary media, film and music.
Tickets will be on sale mid December. Premiere 16 - 19 February 2011 www.riversideparramatta.com.au
A message from the creator of Picture Perfect
Having had successful career as a professional dancer, I now feel fortunate to be in a position where I can use my dance, theatre and choreographic skills to address current subject matter that I am passionate about and which is touching all corners of society. As a dancer, Immersed in a world of mirrors, body and physical perfection from the age of 3, I witnessed first hand the pressure for physical flawnessness.
'Picture Perfect' is an extremely topical dance theatre work, in its final stage of development. When completed it will act as a springboard for further discussion about one of Australia's fastest growing, contentious and 'socially silent' trends. There is strong interest in the production from schools, who comment on the importance of the production's themes for their students.
Picture Perfect has been recognised as a significant and important dance work by Arts NSW and the Australia Council through funding support. Unfortunately the funds are not sufficient and we are therefore seeking additional cash so that this production can be premiered, then travel into schools and serve its intended purpose.
I am passionate about Picture Perfect reaching as many audiences as possible, raising awareness and provoking discussion through the experience of live dance theatre performance.
